This book was fun to read. It is a modern day retelling of the story of Esther. As in Esther, Addy does not want to opportunity to try to get an opportunity to go to the prom with the President's son, Jonathan. She takes it to help out her school. She tried to bomb her chances at first, but she stays in the competition. She continues on through the end until she is one of the last contestants. She goes through many different trials and has to deal with girls who don't like her and has to deal with her growing attraction to Jonathan. This book has been out for a while, but if you haven't read it then please stop reading because here is a spoiler alert. She does not win the competition, but she does end up dating Jonathan.
I enjoyed this story and how well Krista McGee incorporated that story into a modern day setting. I was a little dissatisfied with the reason she went, because in the Bible story it is in the end for a much bigger reason that Esther is married to the king. Also, the main focus was on the process of how they were picked, and not on saving anything, contrary to the main storyline. However, I do understand that that would be a difficult thing to do especially in a modern day setting. I did enjoy the ending. The nemesis of Addy won the date to prom, but Addy was the one who started dating him. I thought that was a great ending.
I give this book an 8/10. I recommend this for ages 12 and up.
